Since this week, consumers have the option to install iOS 16. Due to the software, all kinds of new functionalities and improvements appear on your current smartphone. However, do you buy an Apple iPhone 14 and do you have to be patient? Then take a special case into account.
Apple ships the new devices with an eccentric version of iOS 16. If you get an iPhone 14 this week, you have to update everything before you can really go wild.
iPhone 14 with separate version iOS 16
After months of testing, it was finally time on Monday: the full rollout of iOS 16. Apple made the operating system available to all consumers, a week after developers were able to get started with the Release Candidate. However, the company was unable to provide all new iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models with the latest software.
According to AppleSWUpdates, a fairly well-known account on Twitter, the devices do not yet have a final build. The smartphones from the iPhone 14 series will therefore receive a so-called Day One update, so that the most recent version can be used immediately.
The new iPhones ship with an earlier version of iOS 16, so you’ll get a day one update to the final release build (20A362), which will show up with the following as release notes: pic.twitter.com/UnryNYzCXw

That also seems to be necessary, because according to the caption with the update, iOS 16 fixes an annoying problem. The processing of photos on the iPhone 14 models did not seem to be quite up to date. When zoomed in, details were blurred in the background.
In addition to the iPhone 14 models, the Apple Watch Series 8 also seems to be getting a Day One update.
Why Apple ships older versions
You may be wondering why Apple ships devices with an older version of iOS 16 or watchOS 9. The answer is pretty simple: shipping takes time. Weeks before you receive your iPhone 14 or Apple Watch Series 8 at home, the different models already leave the factories. Since the Release Candidate (the last beta version before launch) only appeared last week, Apple simply ran out of time.
In principle it doesn’t matter at all, but it is something that doesn’t seem to happen too often. As soon as you have your iPhone 14 at home, go to Settings -> General -> Software Update and install the latest software.
