From the Android camp, the iPhone 14 Pro Max smoothed out the hole in the screen and AlwaysON and made them better, and for the first time we have a camera sensor that exceeds 12MP.
Find out what the iPhone 14 Pro Max can do and why you will want it in this review after a week of use.

iPhone 14 Pro Max DESIGN AND ERGONOMICS
If you look at it from the back or from the side, you will have a hard time distinguishing the iPhone 14 Pro Max from its predecessor. The distinctive rear triple camera module and flat metal edges are practically identical, and the device is just as bulky and heavy in the hand.
However, that camera module is slightly larger on the back, and is no longer there on the front notcha. It was replaced by the Dynamic Island, and the screen frame is still slightly thinner compared to its predecessor.
Dynamic Island is Apple’s name for what they’ve done with the two openings in the screen, which house Face ID and the new 12MP selfie camera with autofocus. By darkening the pixels in between, Apple merged the two openings into one larger oval, which again expands and shrinks with fine software animations, and is divided into two parts.
There will be those who will say that m is the previous one notch better, but be sure that this will experience as many copies in the Android world as the navigation gestures experienced. And more.
Along the very top edge is the speaker slot, which in cooperation with the other one at the bottom of the device provides very good stereo sound. Below are also the main microphone and still the Lightning port for charging the battery and synchronization.
On the right edge is the Side button, which by default calls up Siri, and in combination with the mute button on the opposite edge displays the menu for turning off and restarting the device.
There on the left is the sound profile switch and the tray for the nano SIM. In addition to this physical one, you can also add another eSIM. Americans only have the eSIM variant.
Like its predecessor, the frame is flat and made of stainless steel.
On the back is a matte glass from which an even larger camera module protrudes. It is bigger, so 13 Pro Max masks will not fit.
The device is again waterproof to a depth of 6m for 30 minutes.
A lot of glass and a steel frame are the main culprits for the weight of 240g, so in addition to the 6.7-inch screen and larger dimensions, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is large, bulky and heavy in the hand. I have big hands, but it doesn’t fit me. I’m looking forward to trying the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, which I believe will fit much better, although it’s also quite a bit heavier than the aluminum-framed iPhone 14.
There will be very few who will not protect this expensive phone with a mask and tempered glass, and this will make it even more bulky.
iPhone 14 Pro Max ZASLON
The iPhone 14 Pro Max does not differ from its predecessor even in the diagonal of the screen, but everything else about it is different and, more importantly, better. The screen resolution is slightly higher, but that is less important than the fact that it is now an LTPO OLED panel that refreshes in the range of 1-120Hz. This is responsible for the eventual implementation of the AlwaysON display.
The brightness of the screen is also now significantly stronger at the maximum and goes up to 2000 nits, and instead of a notch in the screen, it got two openings for Face ID and a selfie camera. Software-wise, Apple combined those two ports into one and called the fancy name Dynamic Island.
This dynamic opening expands, shrinks and splits with smooth and eye-pleasing animations, displays notifications and mini-widgets, and functions as an extension of the Notification Center and multitasking. I like it, and many people liked it, and there is no doubt that it will soon be copied by everyone, or at least most, in the Android camp.
The screen itself is excellent. It was bright and sharp in display, with vivid colors and pronounced contrast with excellent legibility at an angle. I would dare to say that this is now the best screen on the market, and of course it is signed by Samsung.
The hole in the screen is not particularly eye-catching while watching videos or playing games. Scrolling through content is super smooth thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate.
The implementation of the AlwaysOn screen in the iPhone camp has been waiting for years, but now that they have finally implemented it, it is clear that they have thought about it long and carefully.
I personally really like how they put it together. In the darkened edition, it shows and wallpaper from the Lock Screen, and the display of the clock, notifications and mini-widgets is much brighter than on Android phones.
I did not notice any particular impact on autonomy. We can attribute this to lowering the refresh rate to just 1Hz. AlwaysOn is automatically turned off in the pocket and bag, that is, in a total of 8 scenarios, which I wrote about here.
Apple fights against the burn-in effect with Pixel Shift technology, which allegedly moves the display on the AlwaysON screen imperceptibly to the eye. Let’s take their word for it, and we’ll know how much it holds water in about a year.
iPhone 14 Pro Max KAMERE
This year, Apple decided to make two important changes in terms of cameras. No, they didn’t offer the equivalent of Pro or Manual recording mode, nor 8K video, but they put a better 12MP selfie camera on the front of all four models with autofocus, and the Pro models also got a 48MP sensor on the back.
There will be those who will say that 48MP sensors have been in the Android camp for years, and today we also have 200MP cameras, but Apple is pushing its own. In any case, this 48MP camera is excellent for them, and by default it takes 12MP photos, although in ProRaw mode it is possible to shoot in full 48MP. Such photos often take up more than 100MB, so do the math. This camera has the second generation of Sensor Shift stabilization, and records video in maximum 4K at 60fps. Using crop, this sensor offers 2x magnification without loss of quality.
There are two more 12MP cameras on the back – an ultra-wide and a 3X telephoto camera, and again I will praise the uniformity of color reproduction on all three lenses as well as the smooth transition between them.
The front selfie camera now has autofocus, and it takes very nice portraits with a bokeh effect.
Thanks to the large sensor, the main camera guarantees a natural bokeh effect, lots of details and an even better dynamic range. Takes great photos in various light conditions.
Very nice photos can also be taken with an ultra-wide camera.
The telephoto camera with 3x zoom cannot quite match the 10X magnification offered by Samsung’s top models, but it also provides very good results with digital magnification.
The camera interface, as before, does not offer as many options as its Android rivals, but I doubt that you will miss anything in particular. It offers portrait mode at 1x, 2x and 3x with precisely separated subjects from the background. It has Slo-Mo and Time-lapse recordings, and the new Action recording mode guarantees super stabilized videos.
iOS 16 brought a handful of new features, again mostly things that Android has been offering for years, but Apple spices them up with its own magic and its own approach. Among the biggest novelties are the possibilities of customization of the Lock Screen, which now also displays mini-widgets borrowed from the Apple Watch.
Now it is possible to adjust the font and colors of the clock display, as well as the space above it. Apple has very nicely implemented a subtle transition to the AlwaysON display if you’re going to use it.
Notifications now appear at the bottom of the Lock Screen within thumb’s reach. It is possible to have multiple Lock Screens linked to Focus Mode, so you have one for work, one for rest, or whatever you want, each with a different background and widgets.
The multitasking display has not changed, and there are no visible changes in the Control Center either.
The far left side of the Home screen shows the widgets of your choice, and the far right the Mediateku Application with various categories.
A swipe across the Home screen opens the universal search engine, just like before.
As usual, everything is smooth and fluid under the fingers.
The benefits of iOS and the Cloud for everyone immersed in Apple’s ecosystem are far-reaching as usual. Apple offers a whole range of services and applications, all of which synchronize with each other and work perfectly.
iPhone 14 Pro Max PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY
This year, for the first time, Apple differentiated the Pro models from the rest of the team with a drive chip. Thus, only the iPhone 14 Pro and this Pro Max got the new 4nm A16 Bionic drive chip with 6GB of RAM and again only 128GB of data memory in the basic model. If you will pay more you can get 256/512GB/1TB memory.
With an iCloud subscription, you can also have 128GB, but it would be fair to equip a phone of this caliber with at least 256GB of memory.
Both processor and graphics performance are excellent as usual. Everything works smoothly and fluidly, and energy efficiency guarantees really great autonomy. Whatever you ask the iPhone 14 Pro Max to do, it will do it quickly and effortlessly. The interface is smooth, it spins games masterfully and without overheating.
Security and biometric authorization is guaranteed by the Face ID system, which works excellently both in the sun and in pitch darkness, even with a mask and glasses on the nose.
I didn’t notice any problems with telephony or GPS, and not even with Apple Pay contactless payment.
Apple has also implemented Crash Detection sensors on all four models, which will detect that you have had a traffic accident and automatically notify selected contacts and authorities and send them your location.
The battery has a capacity of 4323mAh and offers a full day of intensive use, and standby autonomy is again the best on the market. It charges wired and wirelessly, although the speed lags behind Androids from the mid-range segment. It is charged at a maximum of 30W, and in half an hour it is charged to 50%, while it takes about 90 minutes to reach 100%. I mostly charged wirelessly at night.
iPhone 14 Pro Max RATING
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the most expensive and, as usual, the best Apple phone to date. Compared to its predecessor, it offers an even better screen, better performance, a better camera and the famous Dynamic Island in the screen.
It takes the best photos and the best video on the market, and iOS offers a lot of benefits for those immersed in Apple’s eco system.
It would be nice if the base model offered at least 256GB of data memory and if charging was faster.
The most tangible minuses for me are that it is heavy and bulky and extremely expensive.
U iStyle store and webshop iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB costs 12259kn or €1,627.05.
