Published eight years ago, The Sims 4 are undeniably one of the most popular titles of all time with a base of 36 million players and earnings of around half a million dollars a year. After their release in September 2014, they were the first game for PC to dominate the sales charts for two full years, and subsequently arrived on consoles with the same success, while as a series they are also significant for attracting female players to this “male” world of entertainment.
According to the new press release Electronic Artsa, starting October 18th, the base version of The Sims 4 will be free to play on PC via the EA App, Steam or Origin, as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. According to the publisher, they will continue to create new content, the details of which will be shared at a special online event Behind The Sims Summit scheduled for October 18, which will be broadcast via YouTube i Twitcha.
Of course, those who already bought the basic Sims 4 earlier have not been forgotten, and they will receive a special one as a gift Desert Luxe Kit which will enrich their contemporary living oases with luxurious interior and exterior decorations inspired by desert materials such as sand and stones. To receive this gift, players need to log into the game between September 14th and October 17th and the claim link will be available in the main menu.
Given that it is an eight-year-old game, it was to be expected that by now we would have heard about its sequel, the fifth chapter, but EA Maxis and their parent company are wisely keeping quiet about everything. However, in January 2020, Maxis embarked on a massive hiring spree for a “new, unannounced title” which sparked rumours, as did Andrew Wilson’s statement at the same time emphasizing that the future of the series was in social interaction and competition, and that such things will happen in the years to come. We say again, still nothing since the official announcement of The Sims 5, but we all know how EA thinks and that something is definitely brewing. Until then, enjoy your free “four”.
