For the first time in seven years, Apple is introducing an extra button for its smartwatch. In addition to the Digital Crown and side button, the Apple Watch Ultra also features the so-called action button. One to which you can link an action. What can third parties do with the button?
The question you probably have is, “How much can non-Apple apps work with the button?”. The answer: in theory pretty good.
Apple allows developers to produce an action for the button. The Apple Watch Ultra could theoretically activate the Google Assistant, Spotify or any other app. Time will tell how this works in practice. The Ultra arrives at the editorial office tomorrow.
It is also possible to add two functionalities. For example, with one push of a button you can activate a Assignment and then attach a second one to it. In that case, pressing twice could activate the flashlight, for example.
